Non-partisan race-rater Inside Elections shifted their prediction for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District to ‘Toss-Up’ this week — the latest sign that Marcy Kaptur has the momentum behind her to keep the district blue.
Inside Elections writes in part that while “the district was drawn to be even more Republican than it was two years ago…the political environment is better and [Kaptur] is running even with Republican Derek Merrin.”
The ratings change comes as Derek Merrin continues to campaign everywherebut the district he is running to represent and polling shows him and Kaptur locked in a dead heat. Merrin is also facing scrutiny for sourcing his own campaign merchandise from Bangladesh while hypocritically pushing a “Made in America” agenda, and staying silent on the over $90,000 in campaign donations he’s accepted from FirstEnergy’s backers, including a corrupt politician in prison for the FirstEnergy bribery scandal.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi: “Northwest Ohio families are sick and tired of being crushed by Republicans’ affordability crisis, and Derek Merrin has made it crystal clear that he would only make their lives worse. Ohioans know that Marcy Kaptur is a proven fighter with a history of putting her community first, and voters are ready to send her back to Congress.”
