🚨Peter Oberacker Honored Nazi Grandfather in Disturbing Social Media Post: “I Salute All Who Served” [New York Post]

A damning new report reveals that Republican candidate Peter Oberacker praised his grandfather Ludwig Oberacker, who served in Nazi Germany’s military under Adolf Hitler, in a recently surfaced Veterans’ Day post.

Oberacker’s grandfather is pictured in full Nazi military uniform, complete with a German eagle clutching a swastika wreath and a second swastika badge — as Oberacker proclaimed above that he “salute[s] all who served.”

Asked about the post, Oberacker doubled down and defended his grandfather’s military record, stating “you got drafted and you served your country, and that was really basically it.”

REMINDER: This comes less than a year after a bombshell Politico investigation revealed that Oberacker’s former communications director and would be-campaign manager, Bobby Walker, was a central figure in an antisemitic GOP group chat where leaders of the state party “fantasiz[ed] about putting their opponents in gas chambers, burning their enemies and joking about their love of Hitler.”

“There’s a clear pattern here, and Upstate voters can see it plain as day. Peter Oberacker saluted a Nazi soldier, then befriended the ringleader of an antisemitic GOP group chat to run his campaign. NY-19 deserves a whole lot better, that’s why they’ll re-elect Josh Riley in November.”

• An upstate New York congressional candidate honored his grandfather, who served in Nazi Germany’s military under Adolf Hitler, in a bizarre resurfaced Veterans Day post.
• Republican State Sen. Peter Oberacker shared an image of his grandfather, Ludwig Oberacker, clad in a Nazi military uniform, including a German eagle clutching a swastika wreath in its talons and another swastika badge, in a Nov. 11, 2015, Facebook post that was first reported by Politico.
• “I debated on whether to post this picture, my Grandfather [sic] Ludwig Oberacker who gave his life for his country, I salute all who served,” he captioned in the since-deleted post.
• But the photograph is not the first antisemitism controversy to touch Oberacker.
• Bobby Walker, who was set to become Oberacker’s campaign manager, was exposed by Politico when Young Republicans leaders took part in group chat that praised Hitler, joked about rape and featured racial slurs.
• The House candidate said his grandfather was a grunt killed during the Battle of the Bulge and defended his military record.
• “[He] didn’t have a choice, you got drafted and you served your country, and that was really basically it,” he said.
