Katko Adds Himself to List of Most Vulnerable Incumbents but Tries to Bury it in Friday News Dump
You may have missed the news, but Congressman John Katko was added to the NRCC’s “Patriot Program” for Republicans they are worried about losing in 2020. As Chairman of the NRCC’s Patriot Program, Katko announced his own vulnerability – but he might not be proud of this distinction since he tried to bury this announcement late on Friday heading into a holiday weekend.
Rep. Katko represents one of only three districts won by Hillary Clinton in 2016 currently held by a Republican and faced his toughest reelection yet in 2018. Combined with the prospect of sharing a ballot with President Trump in 2020, Rep. Katko’s long list of controversial votes make him extremely vulnerable this cycle.
Chief among his bad votes is Katko’s fated decision to vote for the GOP Tax Scam that has raised taxes on thousands of New Yorkers while Katko’s special interest backers have made out like bandits.
“We agree with Congressman Katko that he’s extremely vulnerable and on the cusp of defeat in 2020,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “Thousands of hardworking New Yorkers got a tax hike last week because of Katko’s vote for the GOP Tax Scam. Between his district leaning more and more Democratic and an atrocious record of backing Washington Republicans, Congressman Katko should be worried about his chances for re-election.”
