📺GROCERY GATE: Ralph Alvarado’s Debate Gaffe Makes Primetime TV – “I Give That A 1 Out of 10”

CNN panel skewers Alvarado for saying during KY-06 debate that he doesn’t go to the grocery store because his wife does that

Ralph Alvarado’s debate stage grocery gaffe was so bad that it’s now fodder for primetime cable news.

Asked during last week’s Fox56 debate to talk about what he and his family are experiencing at the grocery store, Alvarado said: “I don’t do a lot of shopping personally. My wife goes a lot.” Yes, seriously.

A CNN panel was visibly shocked by how out of touch Alvarado’s answer was, with a conservative panelist saying: “I give that a 1 out of 10.”

Alvarado’s weakness as a candidate is just one of the reasons why he’s trailing in the polls and non-partisan race rater Cook Political Report shifted KY-06 to Toss Up.

TRANSCRIPT HIGHLIGHTS:

Jake Tapper: Here’s Ralph Alvarado asked about what his family is seeing at the grocery store. I want you to rate his answer on the other side of this.

Alvarado Debate Clip: Yeah, I mean I again, my wife does a lot of the shopping for us, so I don’t get to go. I mean, I’m a physician. My wife goes a lot…

Jake Tapper: *Whistles* Uh, what did you think of that?

Panelist: I give that a 1 out of 10 – 1 being the lowest…

Cook Political Report’s Erin Covey: I mean there’s a reason that Alvarado is in a toss-up seat despite the fact that this district voted for Trump by like 15 points in 2024. But yes, I mean cost of living is by far the dominant issue in all of these places, and it’s why Trump’s approval rating is underwater in a lot of places where he has made significant gains over the past 10 years…
