| In response to news that Jim Desmond was added to the NRCCâs âMAGA Majority,â DCCC spokesperson Anna Elsasser released the following statement:Â
âThe NRCC agrees Jim Desmond is a MAGA extremist â full stop. After posing as a âcommon senseâ moderate, Desmond wasted no time flipping to embrace Donald Trump and Republicansâ MAGA agenda. Itâs all the proof voters need: Desmond will say anything to get elected â then fall in line with his party bosses to raise costs, push reckless tariffs, and gut health care for working families. Desmond isnât running to stand up for Southern California â heâs running to be a rubberstamp for the most extreme voices in his party.âÂ
REMINDER: Jim Desmondâs carefully crafted âmoderateâ image collapsed immediately. The moment Donald Trump and the MAGA Republican caucus offered their âcomplete and total endorsement,â Desmond didnât hesitate to fully embrace it.
And heâs been proving it ever since:Â
- When given the chance to protect Southern Californians from the impact of the GOPâs Big, Ugly Bill, Desmond voted against using county reserve funds to stop service cuts and voted against a plan to respond to federal cuts to Medi-Cal and CalFresh â dismissing the impact of his constituents having less food on their tables.
- Desmond refused to â[shy] away from his support for Trumpâ and endorsed âTrumpâs more controversial efforts â including ending birthright citizenship.â
- As gas prices in California skyrocket to nearly $6 per gallon, Jim Desmond dismissed the financial burden on working families, calling it âno pain, no gain,â and saying âPresident Trump is right.â
- Desmond voted against his own housing proposal to avoid acknowledging that Trumpâs tariffs and economic agenda are crushing Southern California families.
- As the president escalates his costly war in Iran â now draining $1 billion a day from American taxpayers â Desmond admitted âI supportâ it.
- Desmond then tried to wave away rising gas prices altogether, saying theyâll just âgo away onceâŚthis Iran issue, you know, goes away,â yet acknowledged itâs âbloody murder when the president’s actionsâŚ[cause] the gas prices to go up.â
