🚨 RATINGS CHANGE: Cook Political Report Shifts FL-14 Toward Castor, Moves Race to Toss-Up🚨

Non-partisan race rater: “Public and private polling shows Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor with an edge over…Mike Beltran”

Cook Political Report just shifted Florida’s 14th Congressional District in Democrats’ direction, the latest sign that Florida Republicans’ attempt to gerrymander Kathy Castor out of Congress is backfiring and she is well-positioned to win in November.

Cook writes in part:

  • “Public and private polling shows…Kathy Castor with an edge over the GOP nominee…Mike Beltran. Now that the general election matchup is set, we’re shifting this race from Lean Republican to Toss Up.”
  • “Beltran was a loyal ally to Trump…He also has a staunchly conservative record that gives Democrats some ammo for attack ads…(he’s voted against bipartisan bills to lower the cost of health care and housing).”
  • “After representing Tampa Bay for nearly two decades, [Castor] is…well-known and can tout her efforts over the years to bring federal funding to the city’s port as well as MacDill Air Force Base and local infrastructure projects.”

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Republicans are barreling towards November stuck with a weak, extreme candidate in Mike Beltran and a losing electoral strategy. Up against Kathy Castor – who has spent her career taking on powerful interests, lowering costs, and delivering for Tampa families – it’s clear their dummymander is backfiring and Kathy Castor is in a strong position to win.”
