| After GOP leadership spent weeks protecting, coddling, and supporting Tony Gonzales to the tune of over half a million dollars for his primary, he has announced his retirement.
Gonzales becomes the 34th House Republican to announce their retirement during the 119th Congress — and officially tying the number of GOP departures during the 2018 election cycle where House Democrats won 41 seats.
What’s worse for GOP Leadership? They will now be defending a notorious antisemite with a proclivity to display Nazi propaganda, Brandon Herrera, AKA “The AK Guy.”
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson tried to quietly push sexual harasser Tony Gonzales through his primary out of fear of defending a Neo-Nazi. Now Gonzales is gone and House Republicans have added another casualty to their massive retirement list. Good riddance.”
REMINDER: As a result of historic GOP retirements, Republicans are also losing incumbents in swing-districts that the DCCC is targeting. Those include: AZ-01, IA-02, KY-06, MI-10, MT-01, NE-02, and SC-01. |
