10 questions for House Republicans after the NBC Commander-in-Chief forum

10 questions for House Republicans after Donald Trump’s remarks at the NBC Commander-in-Chief forum:

  • Do they agree with Trump saying that his tweet was “correct” that sexual assault in the military is to be expected when men and women serve together?
  • Do they agree that Trump should want a “very good relationship” with Putin, a brutal Russian leader whose government is widely thought to be perpetrating cyberattacks on our nation’s political institutions?
  • Do they actually believe that Donald Trump has a ‘secret plan’ to defeat ISIS, or intends to develop one, given his repeated refusal to articulate any details?
  • Do they still think Trump is the best choice for Commander-in-Chief, when he says that his “common sense” and business experience mark his qualifications?
  • What does it say about Trump’s character that instead of providing a thoughtful answer on addressing the mental health crisis facing our nation’s veterans, he rudely (and incorrectly) tried to correct her?
  • Do they agree with Trump that some of our Generals have been “reduced to rubble,” are “embarrassing to our country,” or that our military, the world’s most powerful force, is “depleted”?
  • Do they, too, think that the fact that Trump defeated 16 other Republicans in the presidential primary justifies the hateful things he has said in his campaign, including but not limited to his attack on the Gold Star Khan family?
  • How can they trust someone who repeatedly lied over the course of the 30-minute forum about his positions on critical national security issues?
  • What do they think it says about their nominee that he did not have a direct answer when asked whether he would be “ready on day one” to be Commander-in-Chief?

Most importantly:

  • How will Speaker Paul Ryan and House Republicans sleep tonight knowing that Donald Trump is who they are backing to make life-and-death decisions about our nation’s security?
