As the Affordable Care Act celebrates 12 years since passage, here are a few facts worth keeping in mind not only about how important the ACA has been to South Florida, but the danger those protections would be in if Carlos Giménez and the Republicans were in the House majority.
Florida has the highest ACA enrollment in the nation, with nearly a quarter of those, almost half a million people, in Miami-Dade County alone. Between 2012 and 2019, the state’s uninsured rate plunged from 20% to 13%.
Carlos’ record is clear:
What’s next for the ACA if Carlos Giménez and other far-right Republicans take the majority?
His congressional colleagues, including fellow Floridian Sen. Rick Scott, have given us a sneak peek, with a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and tax increases on more than 40% of Floridians sitting at the top of the agenda.
DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola
“If Carlos Giménez had it his way, he would kick hundreds of thousands of Miamians off their health care plans, because that is exactly what a repeal of the Affordable Care Act would do. Giménez’s insistence on taking away health care protections in the most ACA-enrolled county in the country goes to show just how much more he values loyalty to a party over serving his constituents.”
