12 Years In, ACA Still Under Threat By Republicans Like David Valadao

Valadao, Republican majority threaten health care protections that Central Valley families rely on

It’s been 12 years since the Affordable Care Act increased access to health care for millions of Americans and solidified protections for those with pre-existing conditions, but the health care law that Central Valley families rely on for coverage is in jeopardy if David Valadao and Republicans retake the majority in the House.

State government data shows that as of 2016 more than 4.7 million Californians received comprehensive health care benefits since the implementation of the ACA; including many low-income individuals who were previously ineligible for coverage.

But David Valadao, who has spent his career attacking working families and seniors’ health care coverage, wants to undo this historic progress:

What’s next for the ACA if David Valadao and other far-right Republicans take the majority?

His congressional colleagues, including Sen. Rick Scott, have given us a sneak peek, with a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and tax increases on more than 32% of Californians sitting at the top of the agenda.

DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy
“If David Valadao had it his way, he would kick hundreds of thousands of Central Valley residents off their health care plans, because that is exactly what a repeal of the Affordable Care Act would do. Valadao’s insistence on taking away health care protections goes to show just how much more he values loyalty to a party over serving his constituents.”
