150 House Republicans Vote Against Bipartisan Fix for USPS, Place Veterans, Small Businesses At Risk

Today, House Republicans voted overwhelmingly against a bipartisan bill providing necessary emergency funding to the United States Postal Service, the Delivering for America Act. The bill protects access to critical mail services by prohibiting substantial operating changes to the Postal Service during the COVID-19 pandemic and authorizes $25 billion in appropriations to the Postal Service – the amount asked for by the Trump-appointed USPS Board of Governors.

In recent weeks, the Trump Administration’s politically motivated attacks on the Postal Service during a pandemic have recklessly put millions of veterans at risk who receive their medication through the mail, small business owners who rely on USPS to ship their products, and have threatened mail connectivity for rural communities that rely on the USPS for service.

The majority of the House Republican caucus voted against this bipartisan bill, even as some in their caucus responded to the public outcry in support of preserving the USPS and voted for the legislation.

DCCC Spokesperson Robyn Patterson released the following statement:

“House Republicans have made clear that they stand on the side of denying veterans access to prescription drugs and hurting small business owners during a deadly pandemic their own Administration’s incompetence helped cause. While House Democrats put in the work and crafted a bipartisan solution, the majority of the House Republican caucus opposed the will of the American people and whipped votes to hurt access to mail services for millions of Americans. It’s now up to Mitch McConnell to do his job and fund this critical federal agency.”
