19 Months Before His Reelection, Is Trump Worried About Perry’s Chances?

After Major Upset for PA Republicans in State Senate Race, Trump Rushes to Save Perry with Endorsement

It’s been a rough week for the national Republican Party.

First, Democrats flipped Pennsylvania Senate District 36 from red to blue, an “astonishing upset” after Trump carried the district by 15 points last year and considering that a Republican has held the seat in its current form for the last 40 years.

Then, national Republicans – panicked that their disastrous agenda of gutting Medicaid, making food more expensive, and abandoning veterans is toxic with voters – pulled another special election that they were at risk of losing in order to preserve their already precarious majority in Congress.

So it’s no wonder that President Trump is jumping in to attempt to save Congressman Perry with an endorsement… more than a year and a half before his own Election Day. Don’t forget, Perry performed worse than Trump with voters in the district last year.

DCCC Spokeswoman Courtney Rice:
“Republicans are panicking – and they should be. Not only is their agenda deeply unpopular with voters, but they’re already losing elections as a result. President Trump’s endorsement of far-right Congressman Scott Perry, more than a year and a half before his reelection campaign, is as clear a sign as ever that Perry and national Republicans know he is the most vulnerable he’s ever been.”
