After a bruising Republican primary in May for NC-01, the NRCC has yet to acknowledge their Republican nominee, Sandy Smith – and it’s easy to guess why. Sandy Smith is absolutely unelectable and the NRCC knows Don Davis is going to win this North Carolina seat.
Sandy Smith has been accused of a pattern of disturbing violence against her family, including allegedly trying to run over her ex-husband with a car. She proudly admits to marching on the Capitol on January 6th. Even if voters could overlook the disturbing allegations of abuse, Smith’s extremist views and bizarre conspiracy theories are enough to make any North Carolinian sprint in the other direction.
It makes sense why the NRCC is trying to distance itself from the political liability Sandy Smith – but they won’t be able to run forever.
“The NRCC has two choices in NC-01: Back a flawed, extremist candidate like Sandy Smith, or give up the district altogether,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Either way, voters will send proven leader Don Davis to Congress this November.”
