3 Years Later: House Republicans Still Want to Make the American People Pay More for Less Care

Three years ago today, House Republicans passed the AHCA: their disastrous health care bill that would have gutted protections for 135 million Americans with pre-existing conditions, imposed an age tax, and made health care less accessible and more expensive for the American people. Their legislation also would have put over 15 million Americans who rely on Medicaid at risk of losing their health care coverage.

Even though Washington Republicans’ toxic bill didn’t become law, their efforts to spike costs and strip coverage for the American people ultimately cost them 41 seats in the House of Representatives, which explains why they’re doing everything they can do to run from their deeply unpopular records.

Unfortunately for Washington Republicans, health care will once again be a top issue this election. As the Associated Press noted last month, “Americans who have largely shelved election-year politics… focus on protecting their families from the spreading coronavirus.”

“At a time when access to affordable health care is more important than ever, Washington Republicans’ record of voting to gut protections for pre-existing conditions and spiking costs while stripping care will cost them yet more seats this election year,” said DCCC Spokesperson Fabiola Rodriguez.
