5 Questions for Wesley Hunt As He Casts His Ballot Today

“Trump Conservative” Wesley Hunt’s campaign is fading fast as Trump’s Harris County collapse continues and Washington Republicans cut and run in TX-07

As self-described “Trump Conservative” Wesley Hunt heads to a West Loop polling place to cast his ballot for President Trump and himself at 12 p.m. today, the DCCC has five questions for Hunt and his quickly-sinking campaign in Texas’ 7th Congressional District:

  1. Hunt said “I believe that we need to fully repeal Obamacare.” If the Affordable Care Act is struck down as Texas Republicans have requested, what’s Wesley Hunt’s specific plan to protect people with pre-existing conditions at the same level the ACA provides?
  2. Asked if the United States was responding properly to coronavirus, Hunt responded with unambiguous praise: “President Trump is doing the right thing. He is,” Hunt said. With 220,000 Americans dead, does he still think President Trump is “doing the right thing?”
  3. Hunt didn’t reveal President Trump’s in-district numbers in his recent internal poll showing Hunt trailing his opponent. How wide a margin does he think President Trump will lose the 7th District by?
  4. Does Hunt regret no-showing the Houston Chronicle editorial board after reading their endorsement of his opponent?
  5. National Republicans are writing off Hunt’s campaign, cancelling millions of dollars in TV ad buys and telling Inside Elections “even if he loses, we haven’t seen the last of Wesley Hunt” and National Journal “Republicans already expect candidates like… highly touted Texas recruit Wesley Hunt to mount comeback bids if they don’t prevail next month.” How does Republicans’ lack of faith in the Hunt campaign change his own strategy?
