5 Things to Remember About John Katko’s Record Ahead of Today’s Debate

As voters tune in to the first of several debates in the race to flip New York’s 24th district, here is a reminder of just a few of the ways Washington has changed Congressman John Katko, and how his toxic record hurts families in Central New York.

  1. John Katko endorsed Donald Trump’s re-election bid. Full stop.
  2. When workers who lost their jobs during the pandemic needed help, John Katko voted to cut unemployment insurance, holding up much needed relief to Central New York families.
  3. John Katko’s 2017 vote for the Republican tax law gave huge tax handouts to the super rich and massive corporations, including powerful drug manufacturers. Among those who made off like thieves, Big Pharma got a $40 billion tax handout. The bill added 2 trillion dollars to the national debt and slammed central New Yorkers by capping the property tax deduction. Washington Republicans planned to pay for the bill by cutting Social Security, Medicare and other benefits for the most vulnerable. Donald Trump even admitted that Katko and Washington Republicans intended the tax bill to fully dismantle the Affordable Care Act and rip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
  4. John Katko voted against a bipartisan bill to lower the rising costs of prescription drugs and has accepted campaign contributions from the group lobbying against bipartisan efforts to make health care more affordable. He’s accepted more than $150,000 in special interest cash from the pharmaceutical and drug industry.
  5. John Katko’s supporters are pumping thousands of dollars into negative and untrue ads in attempt to smear his opponent. A final desperate and disgusting attempt to hold onto a seat that recent polling shows is a Toss-Up.
