Today marks the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, guaranteeing a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. Ever since then, Derrick Van Orden and House Republicans have attempted to roll back these rights, clinging to their dangerous belief that politicians should make personal health care decisions for women.
Van Orden has made it clear he’d support a national abortion ban. He’s said he’s “100% pro-life” and even compared abortion to “genocide.”
In the 118th Congress alone, Van Orden helped pass four anti-abortion bills:
H.R. 26 – Legislation targeting doctors who perform abortions
H.R. 6914 – Targeting college students’ right to essential health care
H.R. 6918 – Allowing federal funds to target women who seek essential health care and spread misinformation
H.R. 2670 – Tried to block reproductive health care access for members of the armed services
And his party introduced six additional anti-abortion bills, including two total national abortion bans:
H.R. 7 – Blocks funding for reproductive health care force millions of women off their private health care plans
H.R. 4368 – Attempted to pass a new nationwide restriction on the safe, legal abortion medication mifepristone
H.R. 4664 – Strips away abortion services from hundreds of thousands workers and would allow employers in DC to discriminate against women who seek reproductive care
H.R. 5894 – Defunds critical health care resources for women, targets doctors by restricting access to essential training, and allows providers to discriminate against patients based on their personal beliefs
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Instead of working to lower costs or addressing a single pressing issue for families in Wisconsin, Van Orden voted to restrict women’s reproductive freedoms. He can’t hide the fact that he continues to support dangerous attacks on Wisconsinites’ rights, and Van Orden will pay for his votes at the ballot box.”
