51 Years After Landmark Roe v. Wade Decision, Miller-Meeks Relentlessly Pursues National Abortion Ban

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, guaranteeing a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. Ever since then, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and House Republicans have attempted to roll back these rights, clinging to their dangerous belief that the government should make personal health care decisions for women.

Miller-Meeks, who said she had a “100% pro-life” voting record, has been on an anti-abortion crusade since she came to Congress in 2020 after winning by just 6 votes. She co-sponsored the Life At Conception Act, which has no exceptions for rape, incest, or the woman’s life, and just days ago, she doubled down on the legislation.

In the Iowa state legislature, Miller-Meeks voted for “the most restrictive abortion ban in the country” and a constitutional amendment that would eliminate the right to an abortion in Iowa.

In the 118th Congress alone, Miller-Meeks helped pass four anti-abortion bills:

  • H.R. 26 – Legislation targeting doctors who perform abortions

  • H.R. 6914 – Targeting college students’ right to essential health care

  • H.R. 6918 – Allowing federal funds to target women who seek essential health care and spread misinformation

  • H.R. 2670 – Tried to block reproductive health care access for members of the armed services

And her party introduced six additional anti-abortion bills, including two total national abortion bans:

  • H.R. 7 – Blocks funding for reproductive health care forcing millions of women off their private health care plans

  • H.R. 431 – Would ban abortion nationwide

  • H.R. 464 – Would ban abortion nationwide

  • H.R. 4368 – Attempted to pass a new nationwide restriction on the safe, legal abortion medication mifepristone

  • H.R. 4664 – Strips away abortion services from hundreds of thousands of workers and would allow employers in DC to discriminate against women who seek reproductive care

  • H.R. 5894 – Defunds critical health care resources for women, targets doctors by restricting access to essential training, and allows providers to discriminate against patients based on their personal beliefs

DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Instead of working to lower costs or addressing a single pressing issue for families in Iowa, Miller-Meeks has voted time and time again to restrict women’s reproductive freedoms. She can’t hide the fact that she continues to support dangerous attacks on Iowans’ rights, and Miller-Meeks will pay for her votes at the ballot box.”
