Today marks the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, guaranteeing a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. Ever since then, Scott Perry and House Republicans have attempted to roll back these rights, clinging to their dangerous, delusional belief that their attacks on women’s reproductive freedoms are popular.
In the 118th Congress alone, Perry’s majority has passed four anti-abortion bills:
-
H.R. 26 – Legislation targeting doctors who perform abortions
-
H.R. 6914 – Targeting college students’ right to essential health care
-
H.R. 6918 – Allowing federal funds to target women who seek essential health care and spread misinformation
-
H.R. 2670 – Tried to block reproductive health care access for members of the armed services
Perry celebrated the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade as a “monumental victory.” He supports a national abortion ban and even championed an effort to block the military from reimbursing travel expenses for service members seeking an abortion.
New polling recently found that abortion rights have historic levels of support with voters, including 66% of voters who oppose ongoing Republican efforts to pass a national abortion ban.
REMINDER: The Chair of the NRCC encouraged his vulnerable members – like Perry – to brag about their extreme anti-abortion positions on the campaign trail: “Republicans don’t have a policy problem. We have a branding problem.”
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Instead of working to lower costs or addressing a single pressing issue for families in Pennsylvania, Perry voted to restrict women’s reproductive freedoms. He can’t hide the fact that he continues to support deeply unpopular attacks on Pennsylvanians’ rights, and Perry will pay for his vote at the ballot box.”
