Rep. David Young has voted multiple times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would’ve allowed insurers to deny protections for those with pre-existing conditions. In 2017, he voted for the AHCA, which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and Politifact confirmed would gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer and diabetes.
“Rep. David Young is blatantly lying and saying he stood up to his Party to protect Iowans with pre-existing conditions, when in reality, he’s voted nine times to do the opposite,” said DCCC Spokeswoman Rachel Irwin. “Just last year, Young caved to public pressure from his Party and special interests and voted to raise healthcare costs, gut protections for Iowans with pre-existing conditions and slap an age tax on older Americans. Young’s dishonest claims are as disgraceful as his record and he should be ashamed.”
Along with voting for the AHCA, Young voted for the GOP Tax Scam that prioritized tax cuts for his wealthy donors while repealing a key provision of the ACA that will force Iowans to pay more in premiums for healthcare. Young’s vote opened the door for the GOP and the Trump administration to seek a lawsuit dismantling protections for those with pre-existing conditions, like asthma, cancer and diabetes, in federal court.
