DCCC LAUNCHES NEW KS-02 AD ON STEVE WATKINS’ WEB OF LIES

On the heels of multiple investigative reports catching Republican candidate Steve Watkins lying about his biography and business experience, the DCCC is announcing a new TV ad in Kansas’ 2nd District today to warn voters about his rampant dishonesty.

The ad “Caught in a Lie,” slams Watkins for lying about his role in multiple companies, including his claim that he started a company “built from scratch.” A Kansas City Star report fact-checked Watkin’s claims, reporting that the company was founded before he even graduated college and the CEO of the company said Watkins is “nobody that I’ve heard of.”

One week after Watkins was caught lying about his business record, the Associated Press reported that Watkins has been misleading voters about his biography and is now scrubbing his website of those lies. The new report discredits Watkins claims about his adventures and ties to Kansas with harsh critiques from those who knew him. Watkins, who’s been hailed as a top NRCC recruit and “Young Gun,” has been called a “fraud,” a “rank opportunist,” and a “liar” by fellow Republicans.

“Steve Watkins is a pathological liar who can’t be trusted. While Watkins is an unknown in Kansas, those from his past describe him as a political opportunist who will say whatever it takes to get ahead. Caught in a web of lies, Watkins’ floundering campaign is being boosted by D.C. special interests eager to send him to Washington to do their bidding.” – DCCC Spokesperson Rachel Irwin

Script:

Steve Watkins caught lying again.

For months, Watkins bragged to voters that he built his own company from scratch.

But it was all a lie.

Watkins lied about his role in other companies too.

The CEO of one company didn’t even know who Watkins was, saying, ‘he’s nobody that I’ve heard of.’

No wonder Watkins fellow Republicans called him a fraud and a liar and denounced his campaign.

If we can’t trust Steve Watkins now, why would we ever trust him in Washington.
