On 83rd Anniversary of Social Security, A Reminder of The Ways Republicans Threaten It

The Social Security Act was signed into law 83 years ago by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Today, Republicans in Washington represent an unprecedented threat to the earned benefits of millions of hardworking Americans. Not only did House Republicans pass the GOP tax scam, which Republican leaders plan to fund with cuts to Social Security and Medicare, but many also support raising the eligibility age and privatization.

“Republicans have made their priorities very clear by voting to give tax breaks to large corporations and the wealthiest Americans with plans to slash Social Security and Medicare to fund it,” said DCCC Spokesperson Rebecca Drago. “Americans know a vote for Republicans in November is a vote to make their retirement security less secure.”
