9 Days Out, NRCC Chair Tom Emmer Grilled For Election Conspiracies and Dangerous Rhetoric

CBS’ Margaret Brennan calls out Tom Emmer on “Face the Nation”

In case you missed it, today, nine days out from Election Day, NRCC Chair Tom Emmer was grilled about his party’s and his own embrace of dangerous rhetoric and conspiracy theories.

Asked to condemn the voter intimidation tactics MAGA Republicans are using like patrolling polling places with weapons:

  • Brennan: “Okay, so you would urge citizens not to patrol polling places?”

  • Emmer: “I urge everyone, get involved.”

Asked about his embrace of conspiracy theories and history of doubting the 2020 election:

  • Brennan: “Do you regret sowing doubts [about the 2020 election] yourself?”

  • Emmer: “What you’re referring to, I’ve never sowed doubts about the election.”

  • Brennan: “You signed onto this Texas amicus brief that went to the Supreme Court to overturn it.”

  • Emmer then refused to say Biden was legitimately elected and instead said “He has been sworn in, he’s serving, he is the president of the United States.”

Asked about Tom Emmer’s recent post that captioned a video of him firing a gun with the hashtag “#FirePelosi”:

  • Brennan: “Why is there a gun in a political ad at all?”

  • Emmer refused to apologize or retract the video, but Brennan didn’t let his dangerous rhetoric off the hook.

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“MAGA Republicans’ embrace of conspiracy theories and dangerous rhetoric is a threat to our democracy and families’ safety – Tom Emmer is just one of many examples. Rather than offer a plan to address the economy and lower prices, get guns off the streets, and improve the lives of everyday people, Republicans are pushing scare tactics, lies, and dangerous rhetoric hoping it is enough to win them power.”
