“A LIAR AND A COWARD”: Read What Rob Bresnahan’s Constituents Think About His Flip-Flop on Medicaid

Protestors called out Bresnahan after he lied and failed to keep his promise to protect Medicaid for his NEPA constituents

Rob Bresnahan continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Bresnahan’s own constituents are calling him “a liar and a coward” who “failed to keep his promise to protect Medicaid” and “needs to go” – after he “broke his pledge” not to cut the program.

Reminder: Bresnahan pledged that he would not support cuts to Medicaid, but then turned around and cast the deciding vote for historic cuts which could rip health insurance away from 27,729 PA-08 constituents.

Read the brutal coverage for yourself:

  • They chanted the congressman’s name and called his office, asking him or his staff to defend his record on Medicaid and other social safety net programs.
  • One demonstrator brought a giant inflatable clown holding an ax, with a photo of U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan covering the face.
  • “We’re mad you lied to us,” political activist and former state representative candidate Megan Kocher shouted from a bullhorn near Bresnahan’s office in the 900 Rutter building in Forty Fort.
  • Bresnahan’s critics say the freshman Republican congressman failed to keep his promise to protect Medicaid when voting for a reconciliation budget bill they say slashes the program. […]
  • “They are taking the money and cuts to give it to billionaires,” said Dwayne Heisel, a director with the Pennsylvania Policy Center and Pennsylvanians Together.

  • Frustrated constituents of U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan gathered outside of his 900 Rutter Avenue office in Luzerne County to protest the freshman congressman’s vote in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which will almost certainly result in cuts to Medicaid should it become law.
  • Rob Bresnahan promised that he wouldn’t support policies that hurt working families, and he said numerous times that he wouldn’t support cuts to Medicaid,” said protest organizer Megan Kocher. “This reconciliation package is going to cut over $600 billion for Medicaid. I’ve met with his staff, and I’m just really upset that he lied to us so many times.”
  • The exact financial impact on Medicaid as a result of the bill’s potential passage is still undefined, though the cuts to both that program and others, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), are expected by numerous sources to be devastating.
  • The effects of the bill will be felt by many in the 8th congressional districtwhich includes all of Lackawanna, Pike and Wayne counties, as well as large swaths of Luzerne and Monroe counties. Some of those who are fearing the consequences were in attendance at Tuesday’s protest. […]
  • Brenna Rabinowitz, another protester, was thinking of her three children, all of whom were adopted from foster care. “They’re all considered special needs. They all have different neurodivergent diagnoses, developmental delays and trauma resulting from their background,” Rabinowitz said of her children. “They all receive services through Medicaid that cost more than our family makes in a year, and those services have changed the trajectory of their lives.” […]
  • “[Bresnahan] turns around and votes for cuts to Medicaid every chance he gets. He’s a liar and a coward and he needs to go,” Rabinowitz said of Bresnahan.

  • A month ago, Congressman Rob Bresnahan (R, PA-08) promised that he “[C]annot and will not support a final reconciliation bill that includes any reduction in Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations…”
  • He broke that pledge almost immediately by voting for a budget resolution that did just that. His excuse that it was merely “procedural” rang hollow then and is proven hollow now.
  • Remember this in 2026.
