After Historic Undercount of Hispanics in 2020 Census, House Republicans Want To Make It Worse

Yesterday, House Republicans passed a bill that could lead to undercounting of Hispanics in the Census. This bill is an affront to the 14th Amendment which calls for a count of “whole number of persons in each state,” and comes despite the Supreme Court blocking the Trump Administration from adding a similar question to the 2020 Census which contributed to an undercount of Hispanics.

According to Pew Research, the 2020 Census produced an “historic undercount” of Hispanics, missing more than 3 million Hispanics, or one-in-twenty of them.

DCCC Spokesperson José Muñoz:
“Heard of the 14th Amendment? House Republicans clearly haven’t. After an historic undercount of Hispanics following the 2020 Census, this vote is further proof that Republicans will go to great lengths to hurt Latinos. Instead of working to deliver for hardworking Latinos by lowering costs, expanding health care, or creating good paying jobs, Republicans are playing a dangerous political game that could lead to less resources for our communities.”
