After Receiving Schweikert Letter, Small Business Owner Invites Complacent Congressman to Discuss Devastating Tariffs

“I was looking at restocking… and there was a 20% tariff surcharge”

A nationally recognized small business in Phoenix is sounding the alarm that David Schweikert and Donald Trump’s tariffs are crushing their business.

The small business owner invited Schweikert to the store to “hear the concerns” of Arizonans like her who are facing “one of the hardest years” they’ve had due to reckless trade policy.

Despite congratulating the AZ-01 business owner for being named a top 100 local business in the country, Schweikert voted to ensure the harmful tariffs could stay in place and continue hurting small businesses.

  • Reporter: It was just named a top 100 local business in the country by Yelp… it was great news, but it comes at a difficult time.
  • Small business owner: This is maybe one of the hardest years we’ve had.
  • Reporter: Wildlings Toy Boutique in Phoenix has had to juggle fluctuating tariffs, specifically on China, the biggest manufacturer of toys for the United States.
  • Small business owner: Already we have had to increase some of our costs. I was looking at restocking… and there was a 20% tariff surcharge on the order.
  • Reporter: Jen said tariffs, coupled with political turmoil and increased costs of goods, has led to a slowdown in customers.
  • Small business owner: Things are starting to slow down, and so the effect of that is a little bit scary.
  • Reporter: The hope for Jen is that representatives like Congressman Schweikert will come visit the store and hear concerns from small business owners.
  • Small business owner: There needs to be some very specific plans to help provide relief for small businesses.
