On January 6, 2021, a violent far-right mob incited by former President Trump and House Republicans’ “Big Lie” stormed our Capitol in an attempt to overturn a free and fair American election. This violent insurrection resulted in the deaths of 5 people and 140 officers injured.
For weeks leading up to January 6th, House Republicans worked to sow doubt among GOP voters and refused to acknowledge the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.
Among those spreading disinformation was Claudia Tenney, who in media interviews supported some of the former president’s lies and has continued to cast doubt on the election.
When it came to uncovering the truth about the deadly insurrection, how it happened, and how we can ensure it never happens again, Tenney, who had once claimed to be for an investigation, twice voted against the creation of an investigative committee.
Most recently, Tenney joined House Republicans’ latest attempt to undermine the bipartisan Select Committee and protect Trump crony and key witness Steve Bannon, who has critical information about the events that directly led up to the January 6th insurrection.
DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola
“A year ago today, we witnessed one of the darkest days in American history and an unprecedented moment in our democracy. Claudia Tenney has been given every chance to show she actually stands for the principles of democracy and freedom, but instead she’s chosen to embrace disinformation, lies, and refuse to investigate a violent insurrection that sought to stop a peaceful transfer of power in the United States of America. Her utter lack of integrity will forever be a stain on her record as a public servant.” |
