On January 6, 2021, a violent far-right mob incited by former President Trump and House Republicans’ “Big Lie” stormed our Capitol in an attempt to overturn a free and fair American election. This violent insurrection resulted in the deaths of 5 people and 140 officers injured.
For weeks leading up to January 6th, House Republicans worked to sow doubt among GOP voters and refused to acknowledge the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.
Among those spreading disinformation was Steve Chabot, who in media interviews promoted the former president’s lies as Republicans sought to overturn the election.
Mere hours after the deadly insurrection, Chabot chose to meet the demands of the violent insurrectionists and voted to invalidate millions of legitimate votes in the 2020 election.
And when it came to uncovering the truth about the deadly insurrection, how it happened, and how we can ensure it never happens again, Steve Chabot twice voted against the creation of an investigative committee.
Most recently, Chabot joined House Republicans’ latest attempt to undermine the bipartisan Select Committee and protect Trump crony and key witness Steve Bannon, who has critical information about the events that directly led up to the January 6th insurrection.
DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola
“A year ago today, we witnessed one of the darkest days in American history and an unprecedented moment in our democracy. Steve Chabot has been given every chance to show he actually stands for the principles of democracy and freedom, but instead he’s chosen to embrace disinformation, lies, and refuse to investigate a violent insurrection that sought to stop a peaceful transfer of power in the United States of America. His utter lack of integrity will forever be a stain on his record as a public servant.”
