After Years of Calling for the Repeal of the Affordable Care Act, Mike Lawler Hypocritically Tries to Convince Voters Otherwise

Mike Lawler has a long record of bashing and undermining the Affordable Care Act, repeatedly calling it “a disaster.”

With less than a month until ACA tax credits expire, causing health care costs to skyrocket for millions of Americans, vulnerable House Republicans like Lawler – facing the most competitive races of their careers – are hypocritically making half-hearted statements and pretending they want to save the ACA because they know the GOP health care crisis will cost them their jobs.

Lawler has no real interest in saving the tax credits and no amount of phony attempts to rewrite his own record will change that. The truth is Lawler and House Republicans have no plan to address the health care crisis. When pressed by CNN on his party’s actual plan to address the rapidly approaching spike in costs on American families earlier this month, Lawler couldn’t name a single concrete proposal.

In fact, Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson lobbied the White House to crush any attempts to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and, according to Punchbowl News, House Republicans’ efforts to convince Trump to let the tax credits expire is working.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“After trashing it for years, Mike Lawler is waking up to the reality that his yearslong opposition to the Affordable Care Act will cost him his job next year. No amount of phony rhetoric or lies will change that. The DCCC will not let so-called Republican moderates like Lawler trick voters after refusing to do a single thing to address the health care crisis they created.”
