After Years of Calling for the Repeal of the Affordable Care Act, Vulnerable House Republicans Hypocritically Try to Convince Voters Otherwise

The so-called moderate House Republicans in some of the most competitive districts in the country have spent years deriding the Affordable Care Act and calling for its repeal.

The New York Times reports Jen Kiggans called for the elimination of the Affordable Care Act in 2022, Mike Lawler has railed against the law, and Tom Kean Jr. voted against ACA protections as a state legislator in New Jersey.

With just a month left until ACA tax credits expire and premiums rise, polling continues to show broad support for the program. Now, facing the most competitive races of their careers, these same Republicans are hypocritically issuing press releases pretending they want to save it.

Despite these phony attempts to rewrite their own record, House Republicans have made clear they have no plan to address their health care crisis. In fact, Mike Johnson called the White House to crush any attempts to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and, according to Punchbowl News, “Trump administration sources tell us it’s exceedingly unlikely that the White House will embrace an ACA subsidies extension or offer its own plan.”

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Vulnerable House Republicans are waking up to the reality that failing to fix the health care crisis they created will cost them their seats in 2026. The DCCC will not let these so-called Republican moderates trick voters after refusing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits for months.”
