Ahead of Miller-Meeks’ *Rare* Appearance in Johnson County, Here’s a Reminder of Her Disastrous Record

As Mariannette Miller-Meeks holds a rare public event in Johnson County – where 20% of her constituents live – we thought voters deserved a reminder of her abysmal record. In Congress, she has repeatedly put special interests and the extremists in her party over Iowa families by:

  • Jeopardizing Social Security and Medicare: Miller-Meeks turned her back on Iowa seniors, threatening access to Social Security and calling for raising the retirement age and putting Medicare funding on the chopping block.(Reminder: Today is the 88th anniversary of Social Security.)

  • Threatening Reproductive Freedom: Despite conveniently staying silent on Iowa Republicans’ extreme abortion ban, Miller-Meeks has backed a nationwide, total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother. This Congress, she has repeatedly supported efforts to roll back reproductive freedom, making it harder for servicemembers to receive abortion care.

  • Voting Against Lowering Costs for Families: After taking nearly $50,000 from pharmaceutical and health companies this year, Miller-Meeks voted to drive up health care costs, including voting against lower prescription drug costs for Medicare recipients, proposing a health care plan that would allow insurance companies to discriminate against people with preexisting conditions, and voting to slash funding for veterans’ health care.

  • Voting Against Legislation Boosting Iowa’s Economy: Miller-Meeks stood with MAGA Republicans and opposed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is investing millions of dollars in Iowa to expand broadband, modernize airports, roads and bridges, and create jobs.

  • Leaving Iowa Workers Behind: Miller-Meeks voted against job training programs for hundreds of thousands of Iowans, tax cuts for hardworking families, and protecting collective bargaining rights.

DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“In Congress, Mariannette Miller-Meeks has proven time and time again she’s only interested in delivering for special interests and party extremists – not Iowans. Iowa families deserve a representative who will protect their hard-earned Social Security and Medicare, expand access to health care, lower costs for families, and strengthen reproductive freedom.”
