New reporting from Albany Times Union shows that Republicans are expected to lose a New York congressional seat in the 2026 midterm elections based on historical trends that have held true for more than 25 years.
Coupled with his highly unpopular vote for the Big, Ugly Bill, this spells BIG trouble for Mike Lawler, the most vulnerable Republican in New York and the #16 most vulnerable Congressman in the entire country according to National Journal’s 2026 House Power Rankings.
According to the Times Union, “district-wide trends indicate that [NY-17] will be an uphill battle for Republicans next year,” which comes as no surprise after Lawler cast a cruel, unpopular, and decisive vote to kick over 32,000 of his own constituents off their health care and make life more expensive for Hudson Valley families – all to fund more tax breaks for Republicans’ billionaire donors.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“From gutting Medicaid and ripping food off the tables of his own constituents, to abandoning our veterans and making everything more expensive, it’s no wonder experts are already saying Mike Lawler will be out of a job next November. Voters know Lawler has sold out the Hudson Valley to MAGA extremists, and it’s going to cost him his seat.” |
