Alek Skarlatos Faces Yet Another Complaint Over Shady Veterans Charity

Skarlatos once again under scrutiny for using funds meant for veterans to finance his “political ambitions”

OR-04 candidate Alek Skarlatos is facing yet another complaint over his shady veterans charity — this time for failing to register the nonprofit with the state of Oregon, as required by law.

Oregon State Rep. Marty Wilde, an Air Force veteran and Oregon Air National Guardsman who filed the complaint, said his main concern is “whether the charity might be ‘camo washing’ — claiming to help veterans without actually providing any services to them.”

Skarlatos faced widespread scrutiny last year after a bombshell AP report revealed he may have broken federal campaign finance laws by using the nonprofit as a slush fund to finance his “political ambitions.” Meanwhile, the charity did “little” to advance its stated mission of advocating for veterans.

As one former Federal Election Commission lawyer put it simply: “You can’t do that.”

DCCC Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw

“Once again, Alek Skarlatos has shown he’s more interested in lining his campaign coffers than making sure funds meant for veterans are properly used. It’s no wonder he keeps getting into trouble for his shady and potentially illegal self-dealing.”
