The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion for millions of women and undoing 50 years of precedent. It’s a future that Alek Skarlatos has long been working towards – and now he will have to own up to his extreme, deeply unpopular positions.
Oregonians need to know Alek Skarlatos’ dangerous record on women’s reproductive freedom and health care. He:
-
Said ‘go for it’ on overturning Roe v. Wade, despite the fact 77% of the American people support keeping Roe in place
-
Proudly accepted the endorsement of the extremist group Oregon Right to Life, which opposes a woman’s right to abortion even in cases of rape or incest and backs a Texas law that would put bounties on anyone that helped a woman seek an abortion.
-
Supports defunding Planned Parenthood, which thousands of Oregon women depend on for health care services.
Make no mistake: Skarlatos and the Republican Party are on the wrong side of this issue. Polling conducted after the leak of the SCOTUS draft opinion overturning Roe shows: by a two-to-one margin, people oppose Roe being overturned; 80% of people believe abortion should be decided between a woman and her doctor; and nearly two-thirds of people oppose the GOP’s plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
Skarlatos will be held accountable for his party’s role in decimating women’s reproductive freedoms and their plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:
“The stakes in this election could not be higher: anti-choice Alek Skarlatos is backed by extremist groups that want to make all abortion illegal even in cases of rape and incest. Skarlatos couldn’t be more out of step with Oregonians – and we will remind Oregon voters of his cruel extremism every day until November.”
