Rep. Mike Levin: “You really are only as strong as your weakest link. We have to make sure that we strengthen the entire corridor — from the southernmost point all the way up to the northernmost point.”
Another day, another federal investment delivered for Southern California by Congressman Mike Levin. Last week, Levin announced $53.9 million for San Diego County rail projects — “improving reliability, increasing ridership, and making the corridor more resilient to climate change.”
As the San Diego Union-Tribune noted, “Levin also has been a big booster of sand replenishment projects,” helping earlier this year to “obtain millions of dollars for work that started in recent weeks at San Clemente and Solana Beach.”
DCCC Spokesperson Dan Gottlieb:
“Mike Levin’s hard work for his district consistently stands apart in Congress — fighting to bring federal dollars home and route that funding where it truly counts. With this latest investment, Congressman Levin is showing once again that he’ll always put Southern California’s economic well-being and safety first.”
Take a look at what Southern Californians are seeing on Rep. Levin’s latest funding announcement:

Reporter: This morning, local Congressman Mike Levin along with other officials announced the North County Transit District will get nearly $54 million in new federal funding for replacing the San Dieguito River Railway Bridge in Del Mar, which is part of the 351 mile LOSSAN Corridor.
-
This bridge has been a longtime concern — considered an at risk spot. Officials say this project will replace the 108 year old single track wooden trestle bridge, moving from a single track to a double track, and raising the height of the tracks by eight feet to account for increased sea level changes and flooding risks. It’ll also include new passenger rail station platforms at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and overall help prevent travel disruptions.

Reporter: It’s why this corridor, called the LOSSAN corridor, was selected to be part of a new program called Corridor ID. It’s a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and determines what portions of railroad are in most need of federal support.
-
Congressman Levin announced Caltrans will be given half a million dollars to work on planning as a part of that program, and most importantly, it will open the door in the future for more funding to figure out the best way to move forward long term.

Rep. Mike Levin: Mother Nature always wins, and we have to be mindful that regardless of what we do with this corridor — if it stays where it is or if parts of it are relocated — regardless, any of it is going to take significant federal investment.

Rep. Mike Levin: We particularly see in some parts of the corridor, whether it’s down in Del Mar or up in San Clemente, you really are only as strong as your weakest link, so we have to make sure that we strengthen the entire corridor — from the southernmost point all the way up to the northernmost point.
