House Republicans’ plan to gut Medicaid is not only a major concern for the 15 million Californians who rely on Medi-Cal programs, but will crush health care sectors and local economies according to new reporting.
If Republicans get their way, David Valadao’s district alone stands to lose nearly 7,000 jobs, and $820 million in Medi-Cal payments to hospitals. That’s half of the patient revenue in his district gone when Valadao characteristically falls in line.
Remember – these cuts will hit Valadao’s district hardest. CA-22 has the highest enrollment in Medi-Cal programs in the state (67%).

The Fresno Bee: California could lose up to 217,000 jobs if Congress cuts Medicaid, analysis says
-
Across California, Medicaid cuts will cost 217,000 jobs and up to $1.7 billion in reduced state and local tax revenue. The majority of those jobs are in the health care sector – employing 14 percent of the state’s workforce who provide critical care in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes.

Donna Hefner, president and CEO of Sierra View Medical Center in Porterville, said: “More than 41 percent of our patients rely on Medi-Cal for access to essential health services. Cuts of this magnitude would severely destabilize local health care systems like ours, threatening the very foundation of care in the Central Valley.”
Statement from DCCC Spokesperson, Anna Elsasser:
“Republicans’ Medicaid steal is devastating for the Central Valley, spelling shuttered hospitals, Californians out of jobs, and gutted health care access across the board. Voters will not forget David Valadao’s spineless efforts to gut their communities’ livelihoods come 2026.”
