The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion for millions of women and undoing 50 years of precedent. It’s a future that Amanda Adkins has been working towards for decades – and now she will have to own up to her extreme, deeply unpopular positions.
Adkins record on opposing women’s reproductive freedoms is clear:
-
As chair of the Kansas Republican Party, Adkins pushed for a plan to make abortion illegal, even in cases of rape and incest.
-
Just like her former boss Sam Brownback, Adkins has long opposed Roe v. Wade.
-
She backed plans to defund Planned Parenthood, which provides affordable health care to tens of thousands of Kansans every year.
-
Just the other week, Adkins said she “100 percent” will vote yes on Kansas’ constitutional amendment that could pave the way for the state legislature to enact a radical ban on abortion without exceptions.
Make no mistake: Adkins and the Republican Party are on the wrong side of this issue. Polling conducted after the leak of the SCOTUS draft opinion overturning Roe shows: by a two-to-one margin, people oppose Roe being overturned; 80% of people believe abortion should be decided between a woman and her doctor; and nearly two-thirds of people oppose the GOP’s plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
Adkins will be held accountable for her party’s role in decimating women’s reproductive freedoms and their plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:
“Amanda Adkins and her party bear responsibility for the devastating Supreme Court decision eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion for millions of women. It’s a future Adkins has worked towards for decades as a key advisor to Sam Brownback, leader of the Kansas GOP, and now as a candidate for Congress – and we will remind Kansas voters of her cruel extremism every day until November.”
