Amateur Hour In AZ-02 Featuring Ron Watkins

It’s an embarrassing week for the GOP in Arizona’s 2nd District. As reported by the Arizona Mirror, candidate Ron Watkins is in hot water for failing to meet basic campaign finance reporting requirements:

“The FEC sent a letter to conspiracy theorist Ron Watkins’ campaign this week asking for explanations after his campaign filed an amended campaign finance report that showed he initially failed to report nearly $21,000 — about 40% of what he says he has raised.”

Forbes reports numerous dubious donations including $2,400 described as “t-shirts” from Jim Watkins, the candidate’s father and founder of a message board known as a “cesspool of hate.” In total, only three of the 39 donors identified by the campaign are actually from Arizona. 

“Ron Watkins’ amateur operation has once again demonstrated that it is nothing more than a vehicle for his dangerous QAnon sympathies,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “It’s embarrassing that this is the kind of candidate who finds a home in the Arizona GOP.”
