American Families Can’t Afford Their Electric Bill Thanks to Republicans

“Soaring power bills threaten to swing US elections”

The cost of living continues to increase, and American families are struggling to cover their electric bills every month — highlighting another Republican broken promise. The out-of-control prices have become a big affordability issue that will crush Republicans during the midterms.

Since the Republican trifecta has been in power, electric bills have increased by 13%, “forcing families to pay $110 more in 2025 compared to 2024.” Not only that, but 1 in 14 households face severe utility debt that could be sent to collections, creating additional financial hardship.

REMINDER: All cycle, the DCCC has been highlighting how House Republicans are making life unaffordable for everyday Americans, and released a digital ad campaign targeting battleground district voters impacted by high utility costs.

DCCC Spokesperson Bridget Gonzalez:
“Across the country, families are struggling to put food on the table, keep the lights on, and pay for health care thanks to Republican policies. Americans deserve better, and they’ll hold Republicans accountable for the affordability crisis they created.”
