Americans’ Anger Over the Economy and Rising Costs Is Destroying Republican Hopes of a Midterm Victory

“It’s President Donald Trump’s economy — and most Americans aren’t happy with it.”

Prices are rising, inflation is at a three-year high, and Americans’ frustrations with the economy are reaching a fever pitch less than six months out from the midterm elections.

New polling from CNN finds that three-quarters of Americans, including a majority of Republicans, believe Trump and House Republican policies have increased cost of living.

Most Americans say the Iran war and tariffs have hurt their finances, and they trust Democrats over Republicans when it comes to fixing these issues. Democrats are up 9-points on cost of living overall, with voters preferring them on key issues like health care costs, helping the middle class, income inequality, and inflation.

Republicans have also sent inflation skyrocketing to 3.8%, with April data revealing that housing, groceries, and electricity bills are all getting more expensive, with no relief in sight.

The Real Clear Politics polling average gives Democrats a 6.6-point lead over Republicans on the generic midterm ballot.

DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“From the gas pump to the grocery store, Americans are paying more for everything because of Republicans’ horrific policies, tariffs, and their war of choice in Iran. With millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet, House Republicans have no chance of holding the majority this November.”
