Americans Hate Tariffs and It’s Going to Cost House Republicans the Majority

Three fourths of voters blame tariffs for rising prices and say that tariffs will be important to how they vote in November

With less than 50 days until the midterms, there is a growing chorus of angry voters, businesses, and data highlighting how Republicans’ rubber stamping of Trump’s price-hiking tariffs has become a political anchor that will sink their majority in November.

As House Republicans consistently fall in line behind Trump’s tariffs, nearly everything has gotten more expensive and the public hates them – and they blame Republicans.

CNN, under a blaring headline that reads: “Trump’s tariffs fall flat with the working class” quoted a Wisconsin-based Republican strategist on the Republican problem:

The tariff agenda is not working for Trump and the GOP, he says, for a straightforward reason: “because it is being blamed for the higher prices that people are experiencing.”

Indeed. A recent poll from the Cato Institute found that 74% of Americans say that Trump’s sweeping tariffs have raised prices on them.
