Americans Have Been the Ones Paying for Trump’s Tariffs

Study shows Americans paid 96% of costs incurred by Trump’s tariffs

Trump and Republicans have been intently focused on making life more expensive for hardworking Americans. A new study from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy found that Trump’s erratic tariffs were ultimately paid for by American buyers while importers only paid 4% of the cost.

As utility prices increase, health care is cut, and everyday goods are more expensive, Americans have taken notice of who is responsible. 6 in 10 Americans continue to say they disapprove of Trump increasing tariffs and more than half (51%) say the tariffs will be “mostly negative” for the country.

Even Republican voters are expressing disapproval of the tariffs, especially when it comes to the personal impact, with only 36% of Republicans saying the tariffs will have “mostly positive effects” on them and their families.

DCCC Spokesperson Bridget Gonzalez:
“The Republican agenda has proven to be disastrous for the economy and people’s wallets. At every turn, House Republicans have supported Trump’s reckless tariffs that are paid for by the American people — it’s another broken promise that Republicans will have to answer for come November.”
