After dodging key policy questions for months, The New York Times reports dozens of instances of plagiarism in Hinson’s issue pages
Today, the DCCC announced a new targeted ad buy in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, which calls on Ashley Hinson to tell Iowans where she stands on key policy issues amid reports of plagiarism. The ad comes as Hinson admitted last week that her policy content was written – and stolen – by her DC-based consultant, including stealing her opponent’s own veterans plan. This raises serious questions about what Hinson actually believes.
Since launching her campaign last May, Hinson has consistently dodged questions and refused to discuss where she stands on key issues like her party’s efforts to get rid of the Affordable Care Act and whether she believes that Medicare should be able to negotiate lower prescription costs for all Americans. Now, more than ever, Iowans deserve to know:
- Does Ashley Hinson support the Republican-backed lawsuit to end all protections for pre-existing conditions in the middle of the pandemic?
- Would she have voted yes or no on HR3, a bill that will finally take on the drug companies?
The DCCC’s ad will start running today on YouTube targeting voters across the 1st Congressional District, putting pressure on Hinson to come clean with Iowans about where she stands on issues that are top of mind for voters.
TRANSCRIPT
RON STEELE: Iowa Republican Congressional Candidate Ashley Hinson is exercising some damage control tonight.
KWWL ANCHOR: The New York Times alleges Hinson lifted verbatim sentences on her campaign website and in published op-eds more than a dozen times since last year.
CHRIS KING: The Times also reported several other cases of plagiarism from other sources. They include the Des Moines Register, CNBC, The Hill, and even from Finkenauer’s own website.
RON STEELE: What do you say to Iowans who certainly believe that an op-ed piece…[cut]…written by you should be written entirely by you?
HINSON: I think voters deserve to know where I stand.
TEXT: We agree. It’s time to tell Iowans where you stand on the issues, Ashley.
