Amir Hassan is Completely Clueless About Mid-Michigan

Amir Hassan has been living all over the country… but not in Mid-Michigan, and it’s showing.

On this week’s MIRS Monday Podcast, Hassan embraced Trump’s reckless tariffs that scared away the Sandisk plant in Genesee County – and then tried to blame *Democrats* for MAGA failures.

LISTEN:

HOST: “You had a massive advanced manufacturing battery plant not work out just outside of Flint in Mundy Township. Some people are blaming very heavily Trump’s tariff policies. What do you think is the reason that project wasn’t secured?” [12:27]

HASSAN: “Oh well, it could have been secured in the Biden administration. People should really ask, why wasn’t it secured prior to President Trump? And how is President Trump’s policies negatively affecting that when that was all put in place during the Biden administration? It wasn’t President Trump. That’s just a lie they add so they can try to manipulate the people of the county.” [12:45]

… okay.

A little history lesson for Hassan, who clearly hasn’t been following Mid-Michigan news while he’s been living in Maryland and working in New York City, about a project that would have been game-changing for the people he wants to represent:

  1. With a Democratic House majority, Democrats and Republicans passed the CHIPS Act to bring back manufacturing to the United States.
  2. Mid-Michigan officials and economic developers “worked behind the scenes for more than a year to secure the investment” of a new Sandisk plant in Genesee County that was slated to bring 10,000 good-paying jobs to Mid-Michigan.
  3. Trump floats repealing the CHIPS Act and institutes reckless tariffs that drive up costs for both consumers and US-based manufacturers, as well as threatening supply chains and increasing economic uncertainty.
  4. Sandisk cancels the Genesee County project citing “massive uncertainty” at the federal level due to Hassan-backed tariffs and failure of President Trump to sign the company’s CHIPS funding – instead deciding against building a semiconductor plant in the US.
  5. Mid-Michigan loses out on 10,000+ new jobs and a revival of its manufacturing roots due to Trump and Hassan’s tariff policy raising costs for American-based manufacturing.

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Amir Hassan is totally clueless about Mid-Michigan because he’s been living on the East coast for over a decade. Hassan backs reckless tariffs that are shutting down businesses, raising costs, and killing jobs like the 10,000 that were slated to come to Genesee County. Now, working families in Mid-Michigan have Hassan’s policies to thank for losing out on a truly game-changing manufacturing site.”
