Andrew Garbarino Stands in the Way of Massive Investments for Long Island

Voters in New York’s Second District deserve better than a hypocrite who votes against his own community

On Tuesday, vulnerable Republican Rep. Andrew Garbarino once again voted no on advancing legislation that would bring massive and much-needed investments to Long Island, refusing to even debate it.

The infrastructure bill, which passed by a huge bipartisan margin in the Senate, would be a boon for New York’s Second District, providing billions of dollars that would help repair and rebuild roads and bridges, mitigate climate change, expand high-speed internet access, and improve clean water infrastructure, among many other benefits.

But Garbarino has plenty of experience voting against his constituents’ interests. In early July, he voted against the INVEST Act, which included $1 million for highway improvements in Farmingdale and another $1 million for road improvements in Massapequa, that he himself requested.

He has also come out against President Biden’s Build Back Better plan which aims to make even more investments that would flow directly to Long Island — investments like expanded access to education, healthcare, and child care, more resources to fight climate change, and further investments into local infrastructure. Garbarino called those plans “awful” — do his constituents feel the same?

“Andrew Garbarino is shamelessly trying to keep a low profile while voting NO, NO, NO on critical investments for Long Island every chance he gets,” said DCCC spokesperson Abel Iraola. “Long Islanders sent him to Congress to get things done, and so far he’s been solely focused on partisan politics and rejecting investments in his constituents and the communities he represents.”
