Just moments after Andy Ogles provided a critical vote for the House GOP in their crusade to cut Medicaid and SNAP for thousands of Tennesseans, Ogles joined the far-right “Benny Johnson Show” to complain that the country is “barreling towards $40 trillion in debt.”
What Ogles failed to mention is that he and the rest of the House GOP just voted to add an additional $2.4 trillion in debt while cutting taxes for billionaires by kicking people off their health care and taking food off their tables. As Tennesseans continue to struggle with inflation, this added debt could mean higher rates for mortgages, car loans, and credit cards.
In Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District, more than 24,000 people are at risk of losing their Medicaid coverage and almost 15,000 households (nearly half of them with children) may lose their SNAP benefits. All the while, Andy Ogles is adding trillions of dollars to the national debt.
