On Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, DCCC Launches Robocalls Highlighting Congressman Coffman’s Anti-Choice Record

Robocalls remind CO-06 voters of the dangers of Coffman’s attacks on a woman’s right to privacy

On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the DCCC is launching robocalls in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District to remind voters that Congressman Coffman has supported banning all abortions – even in the cases of rape and incest – and has voted repeatedly to cut funding for Planned Parenthood.

“On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Coloradans will be reminded that Congressman Coffman has a dangerous record of opposing a woman’s right to make her own private healthcare decisions,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law.

The following is the script for the robocall that will reach voters throughout Colorado’s 6th Congressional District:

Hi, this is Camille calling on behalf of the DCCC.

Today is the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on Roe v. Wade, which said that a woman’s constitutional right to privacy extends to her ability to make personal medical decisions, including the right to have a safe and legal abortion.

Roe has been the law of the land for decades, and a majority of Americans agree that a woman has the right to make her own medical decisions.

But Congressman Mike Coffman is pushing for more government interference into your right to privacy.

He has stated clearly that he supports a dangerous abortion ban – even in the cases of rape and incest.

Shockingly, Mike Coffman and House Republicans are planning to vote yet again to roll back healthcare access for thousands of hardworking Coloradans.

Call Mike Coffman at (720) 748-7514 and tell him to stop attacking a woman’s constitutional right to make personal medical decisions.

Personhood Would Ban Virtually All Abortions, Even In Cases of Rape and Incest. Personhood Amendment Would Ban Many Forms of Birth Control. According to a 2008 Denver Post Editorial, the personhood amendment “goes far beyond banning abortion and many forms of birth control.” [Denver Post, 6/02/08]

Coffman Wrote Letter to Colorado Right to Life Stating Opposition to Abortion in Cases of Rape and Incest. In 2008, Coffman wrote a letter to Colorado Right to Life where he said, “Dan, I would deeply appreciate it if, during your show, you could state that I wanted to make sure that my position was clear, unequivocally, that I oppose abortion in all cases of rape and incest. I believe that all life is equally sacred irregardless of how it came into being.” [coloradorighttolife.blogspot.com, 10/29/08] See Exhibit #3

Coffman Said on Survey Abortion Is Always Wrong. In 2008, Coffman responded to a Colorado Right to Life Candidate Questionnaire stating “Yes” in response to the question, “Do you agree that abortion is always wrong, even when the baby’s father is a criminal (a rapist)?” [Colorado Right to Life, Candidate Questionnaire, 2008] See Exhibit #1

Coffman Said He Would Refuse to Support any Legislation to Allow Abortion. In 2008, Coffman responded to a Colorado Right to Life Candidate Questionnaire stating “Yes” in response to the question, “Will you refuse to support any legislation that would allow abortion, even if it is a ‘pro-life’ bill? (i.e. legislation that says ‘Abortion shall be prohibited unless…’)”  [Colorado Right to Life, Candidate Questionnaire, 2008] See Exhibit #1
