As the anniversary of Roe v. Wade draws attention to the ongoing rightwing attacks against women’s health, it is also a reminder that House Republicans like Congressman Scott Garrett have voted numerous times to defund Planned Parenthood.
Since entering office, Garrett has voted five times to defund the women and family’s health service, a critical resource that has provided vital health care to more than 23,000 patients in northern New Jersey alone, according to a 2013 annual report.
“The anniversary of Roe v. Wade reminds us of the importance of defending against attacks on women’s health, an effort aided by Scott Garrett who has voted with House Republicans five times to defund Planned Parenthood,” said Meredith Kelly at the DCCC. “By voting repeatedly to cut off access to a critical health service that accepted more than 23,000 patients in North Jersey alone, Garrett has demonstrated that he is no different from the rest of the House Republicans in Washington.”
