As the anniversary of Roe v. Wade draws attention to the ongoing rightwing attacks against women’s health, it is also a reminder that House Republicans, like Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, have voted numerous times to defund Planned Parenthood.
Since entering office, Stefanik has voted five times to defund the women and family health service, a critical resource that has provided vital health care to more than 11,000 patients and conducted over 6,000 breast exams in the North Country alone, according to a 2013 annual report.
“The anniversary of Roe v. Wade reminds us of the importance of defending against attacks on women’s health, an effort aided by Elise Stefanik who has voted with House Republicans five times to defund Planned Parenthood,” said Meredith Kelly at the DCCC. “By voting repeatedly to cut off access to a critical health service that accepted 11,000 patients in one year in the North Country alone, Stefanik has demonstrated that she is no different from the rest of the House Republicans in Washington.”
