Anthony D’Esposito is under fire for his refusal to recuse himself from his role at the Nassau County Board of Elections, despite his own name appearing on the ballot.
As the Daily News reports, Republican nominee Anthony D’Esposito “also holds a position involving polling place and cyber security at the Board of Elections.” D’Esposito has refused to recuse himself, essentially overseeing his own election in New York’s Fourth Congressional District.
D’Esposito’s position at the BOE is a political appointment that pays a cushy $100,000 annual salary. Despite years of GOP extremists spewing talking points about election security, D’Esposito and his GOP backers are unbothered by a candidate’s potential involvement in the ballot counting process or in a cyber security role that would give him unfettered access to ballots.
This caps off a week in which reports revealed D’Esposito’s racked up multiple civil rights violations from his misconduct that resulted in several lawsuits, costing taxpayers more than $80,000.
DCCC Spokesperson Ian Clarke:
“It’s become very clear that Anthony D’Esposito lacks the minimum character required to serve in public office. His corruption cost New York City tens of thousands of dollars, and now he wants taxpayers to pay him to help oversee his own election. Voters will reject D’Esposito’s blatant corruption.” |
